This course is designed to give you a solid foundation in lighting theory and help you understand how light affects form, mood, and storytelling in illustration. Whether you're working on character art, portraits, or storytelling scenes, lighting can make or break your piece. We'll cover lighting types, core and cast shadows, rim light, material behavior, and digital lighting techniques — all with practical assignments you can build on.

By the end of this 4 week course, you'll be able to:

Work with digital layer modes (like Multiply and Color Dodge) to relight and refine your pieces

Confidently apply light and shadow to enhance realism and depth in your artwork

Recognize and replicate material-specific lighting behavior (like skin, chrome, and cloth)

Use rim lighting, occlusion, and edge control to create dynamic, cinematic illustrations

Develop a personal lighting workflow that supports expressive storytelling in your art
